REGIONAL TITLES

PARKERSBURG — After a competitive afternoon at Erickson All Sports Facility, the Parkersburg High School boys and the Ripley High School girls came out on top at the Class AAA, Region IV track meet. “I thought it was a good team effort.” said PHS coach Rod O’Donnell The regional meet was hosted by Parkersburg South and a total of seven track teams were all in attendence hoping to qualify their athletes for the state competition. The meet began with the field events starting around 4 p.m. The Ripleys girls picked up some early points here, with Olivia Miller getting 5-2 in the high jump, taking first place in the event. Second place went to Parkersburg South’s Erin Williams, jumping 5 feet. And third in this event went to Hurricanes Nadia Legros jumping 5 feet. Tori Starcher from Ripley took first place in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:00.36. Closely behind was Parkersburg’s Madison Trippett with a time of 11:38.48 and Winifred Mayes from Huntington with a time of 12:36.34. Starcher also took first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:10.52 and 1600 with a time of 5:07.13. Ripley girls continued to add to their victory with Allison Fields winning the 200 meter dash, clocking a time of 26.20. Fields also took home first place in the girls 100 event with a 12.66. Second place in the 100 went to PHS’s Abby Tanner with a time of 12.77, and third place went to LaTahia Jackson, from Huntington, getting a time of 13.12. Ripley won first place in the girls 4×400 relay event. Fields, Cassidy Miller, Grace Bumpus and Starcher were all apart of this effort clocking in a time of 4:11.48. Hurricane took second with a time of 4:17.12 and Cabell Midland took third with 4:17.77. At the end of the day, the final girls points resulted in Ripley winning first place overall with a score of 126. Hurricane took second with 113. PHS took third with 102 points. Cabell Midland came in fourth palce with 64 points. Parkersburg South took fifth and had 63 points total. Huntington took sixth with 55 points total, and Spring Valley in seventh with 32 points. The relay races in the boys competition was where the regional meet became even more competitive. PHS picked up first place in the 4×800 with Anthony Bradford, Will LeMaster, Devin Ours and Ian Domenick getting a time of 8:28.25. The Big Red Domenick also competed in the boys 1600, where he took first palce getting a time of 4:34.29, and he took first place in the 800 with a time of 2:01.38. Another major contribution to the PHS boys victory was from Benjamin Lake, who took first place in the 3200 with a time of 9:58.12. The boys shuttles event was won by Parkersburg South. Corey Beverage, Dominic Collins, Chris Elschlager and Haden McConnell were all apart of this effort clocking in with a time of 58.51. Elschlager took second place in the long jump event, going 20-7. Elschlager was beat by Hurricanes Jalen Snyder, who got 21-6. Parkersburg South also took home third place in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:34.89. Taking first in that event was Hurricane while the Ripley quartet of Samuel Pierson, Brian Ash, Noah Carson, and Steven Carte finished with 1:33.70 to place second. “Overall we came in fourth in a very strong region, so I am very pleased.” said South boys track coach Erwin DeGraef. “More pleased with the amount of kids that will go to the state meet. Overall a great day for South.” The final boys points resulted with Parkersburg High School getting 125 points total and winning the regional meet. Second place with to Hurricane with 110 points total. Huntington came in third with 102 points. Fourth went to Parkersburg South with 88 points. Ripley took sixth with 42 points, and Spring Valley took seventh with 37 points total.
