SOUTH BOYS, DODDRIDGE GIRLS CAPTURE FENTON RELAY WINS

WILLIAMSTOWN — With a runner-up finish in both the boys and girls divisions, host Williamstown High was able to claim the combined team point total in the 28th annual Fenton Relays at the Jack Jones Track & Field Complex Tuesday night. Finishing with a combined 160 winning points, the Jill Bryant-coached Yellowjacket boys were second to Parkersburg South, 80-76, while the Zach Hall-led maroon and gold girls were second to Doddridge County, 92-84. The Patriots were runners-up with 157, and the Bulldogs, third with 156. Rounding out the combined point scores were Marietta (115.5), Magnolia (88), St. Marys (76), Wirt County (21.5), and Wheeling Central (20). With a logjam in the combined score total at the top, it all came down to the final event, the 4 by 400 relay, which the WHS girls team of Lilly McMullen, Shyla Watson, Carsen Hesson, and Ella Hesson won in a time of 4 minutes and 24.45 seconds. And, in the boy relay, the Yellowjackets finished third overall, ahead of fourth-place South, and sixth-place Doddridge. The Williamstown girls also captured four other firsts in the 4 by 1600 (Kasey McNamara, Stella Flanagin, Emilee Ellison, and Ella Hesson), shot put relay (Bethany Arnold, Brianna Kendall, Elizabeth Newton) , distance medley Sydney Zide, McMullen, McNamara, and Hesson), and discus throw relay (Newton, Kendall, Arnold). The WHS boys won two events, the 4 by 1600 (Josh Chambers, Ryan Wager, John Nicely, and Quentin Fleming) and the 4 by 100 throwers (Ty Moore, Nick Bondi, Joshua Erb, and Skyler Blatt), which was unscored. The South boys won four events in the high jump relay (Dominic Collins, Levi Rice, Mason Cheuvront), shuttles (Collins, Corey Beverage, Haden McConnell, and Crhis Elschlager), 4 by 100 relay (Kyle Carpenter, Tommy Habeb, Collins, and Elschlager), and long jump relay (Elschlager, Carpenter, and Bradley Stump). “I am very pleased,” said first-year South boys coach Erwin De Graef. The South girls were first in the high jump relay (Erin Williams, Abbie Gibbs, Madi Gersper), 4 by 800 (Abby Herring, Emily Dugar, Amber Flinn, and Sierra Hayes), Shuttles (Allie Perkins, Emily Yanok, Madi Gersper, and Sierra Hayes). Marietta claimed gold twice (800 sprint medley and long jump relay) in the girls events and once (distance medley) in the boys. “Nathan Matthews ran the 400 and Caleb Young the 800, and Wyatt Miracle was the 1200,” said MHS senior Collin Doughty, who ran the 1600 in the distance medley. “Wyatt gave us a good start, and Nathan put us in a real good position, and Caleb was able to maintain it. And I was in a perfect position to bring it home for us.” The Tiger time in the distance medley was 11:45:35. The Doddridge girls were first in the pole vault relay (Jasmine Ball, Cameron Smith, Kance Huihui) and in the 4 by 100 relay (Ball, Jonna Ferrell, Mista Smarr, and mcKenzie Newton). The Bulldog boys won the 4 by 200 relay (Griffin Devericks, Dalton Pratt, Dawson Evans, and Seth Davis), pole vault relay (Reese Burnside, Dawson Evans, and Bentley Edgell), 800 sprint medley (Hunter America, Evans, Davis, and Devericks), and discus throw relay (Cole James, Devin Farley, and Drew Smarr). The St. Marys boys were first in the 4 by 4 (Walker Hashman, Caleb Campbell, Isaak Mooney, and Zac Long).
